Scribble and the Apple Pencil is one way I get text from my ADHD brain to the page. Typing is another, but one that I’m often asked about is how I get text that I wrote with a fountain pen and notebook into digital format. Well, it’s simple: I use my iPhone to scan the handwriting. The process is below:

First, I write the text with my favorite fountain pen and any ink my heart desires. Then, I open the camera app and hold it over the handwritten text. A small icon appears in the bottom right corner, telling me that the iPhone has detected text. After clicking on the icon, a prompt to copy all text appears. I acknowledge that is what I want. I then open my app of choice and paste the text. Lastly, I fix any issues that the software had recognizing my handwriting.

Bob’s your uncle. Handwriting from a fountain pen and notebook to digital text that can be pasted into any app that allows text to be pasted. Have you tried using this feature? Is there another way you input your handwriting into the computer?
