Growing up in a middle-class family, we weren’t exactly rich, but we managed to make ends meet. Christmas was always a magical time. My parents and aunt went above and beyond to give us gifts and make the holiday unforgettable. My aunt, a successful businesswoman, hosted a Christmas party every year at her home, and she gifted things my parents couldn’t afford at the time. One Christmas, I received a large set of Lego, which is now known as the Creator’s kits. It was just a collection of blocks that allowed me to create anything my imagination could dream up. I spent countless hours playing and building. I never used the pre-made sets, but that Creator’s set and I were inseparable. Now, in 2025, I still love playing with Lego. When I heard that Lego was collaborating with Nintendo to create a Gameboy set, I immediately wanted it. Readers of my blog know my story with the Gameboy, and some of you know that I restore them, so you can say that the Gameboy and I have a long history.

I finally got my hands on the Gameboy set in June 2025, and I was so excited! It was under $60 USD at the time, and I had just earned some extra money from a job. I was tempted to put it together right away, but I held off for a week. It took me about three hours to assemble it, and I spent a lot of that time just admiring the details. Lego and Nintendo collaborated on this set, and the inside reminds me of the real Gameboy and game cartridges. The Zelda game cartridge even has a Lego battery, just like the real one! I’m absolutely thrilled with this set and have shown it off to a few people, comparing it to an actual Gameboy. It now sits proudly on my desk, above where I usually write. The set’s price has gone up a bit because of the economy, but it’s back to $59.99 at most stores. I can’t recommend this set enough! It has 421 pieces and is almost the same size as the original Gameboy.

Have you ever played with Lego? Are you thinking about trying this set out? You can find it at Amazon here.
