It’s important to consider the impact of power carving and spray sealant on your respiratory system, especially if it’s already compromised like mine. Power carving generates a lot of fine sawdust and particles that can be very harmful over time. Plus, using chemicals to seal projects adds another layer of risk. I’ve always worn a face respirator and safety glasses to protect myself while working in the shop and carving. My first respirator was also made by 3M and required safety glasses, but the seal just wouldn’t keep the glasses from fogging up. One day, I accidentally dropped the respirator and damaged the case. That’s when I decided to invest in a full-face shield and respirator. I chose the 6900 from 3M because it had the ANSI safety rating for the shield and was a four-point harness. I almost forget it’s there when I’m working, and the peace of mind I get from wearing this safety gear is a huge relief. I highly recommend the 3M Full Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6900 for anyone using power tools and working with chemicals.
