I have talked many times on this site and in my reviews that I believe that reading is one of the most important things a person can do. The transfer of knowledge or story is imperative to the human condition. I don’t care if you read a magazine, book, or newspaper, digital or physical, or even listen to the content read to you. The experience of reading and the transfer of a coherent thought between two or more humans are what makes our world work. We need to understand where each of us is coming from if we are to understand their point of view. We don’t need to agree with that point of view, but how can you have a proper option without all the facts? Reading gives you a chance to share something, whether it be a news article or a funny story, is a way that can’t be transmitted any other way.
My mom was an avid reader. She read everything, especially mysteries. She imparted the importance of reading on me. I will admit with physical books, I truly struggled. Carrying it around, small font, only one story at a time. It was like a snail’s pace for ADHD. I needed to find a better solution. I did in the form of digital books. I love the fact that I can carry my whole library with me at any time. I can read day or night in any lighting. I can get books that are interactive when they need to be. I love digital books. Now, Apple Books was not the first to enter the market, and they aren’t even the first digital books I bought; for me, that honor goes to the Barnes and Noble Nook. When the Apple iBooks, as they were initially named, were released, I jumped on the Apple bandwagon because Apple promised interactivity. That future, due to some missteps by our legal systems, caused that reality to remain elusive. I still remain loyal to the Apple Books system. Books are cheap, and the authors get paid for their work. I’m looking at you, Amazon. Digital books are amazing. I love the fact that I can change the font or size to fit my needs. I can read the book anywhere as long as I have power. I can receive updated versions of the text if the author needs or wants to make a change. It is just bliss. While I admit I still use other ebook platforms, I always prefer Apple Books.
