Something typing is not the best way to get ideas out of my ADHD brain. I have exhaustedly covered my use of fountain pens but I also use the Apple Pencil version 2 with my iPads. There are several uses for the Apple Pencil.

I covered my use of the app Freeform for outlining and brainstorming. I use the Apple pencil to draw the shapes and connections between ideas.

Sometimes, pictures come to mind, and I use the Apple Pencil to draw them into the notes app. Also, I use the pencil in the notes app to mark up documents and pictures. I am drawing emphasis on things I want to come back to later. On a side note, in 2023, Apple added a fountain pen as a markup tool, and you know that I had to use that.

One of the best features of the Apple Pencil is called Scribble. It’s Apple’s handwriting recognition system built in systemwide. I often use it, preferring to use my chicken scratch handwriting over typing on the onscreen keyboard. The best part is that Scribble takes my writing, even cursive, and converts it to readable text, which can be used for articles like this one.

The Apple Pencil is one of my favorite things. I use it daily. While I don’t think it is an essential tool, it is one that I find makes getting ideas from my chaotic mind to the screen and ultimately to the page. Have you used or do you use the Apple Pencil?
