Storyist is a wonderful word processor designed for long-form writers in the Apple ecosystem. One of its best features is that it saves directly to iCloud Drive, which is a huge plus! Like many great writing tools, it includes a helpful notecard view, along with dedicated spaces for characters and setting information. It really is a fantastic all-in-one solution for your writing projects. The pricing is very reasonable too, especially since it’s a one-time purchase with no subscriptions. It also handles word count goals, ePub exports, autosave, and versions beautifully.
I really wanted to love Storyist. I’m a huge fan of the Apple ecosystem and prefer to keep all my data securely within it. Unfortunately, I ran into a bit of a snag with sluggish typing. It seemed like the auto-suggest feature was having a hard time keeping up on my M1 Mac mini and M2 iPad Air, which made it a bit tough for me to use. I tried reaching out to customer service a few times to see if we could sort it out, but I haven’t heard back yet. I was really hoping to crown this as the ultimate Scrivener alternative for Apple users, but for now, Scrivener still holds the top spot for me.
I would definitely recommend downloading the Storyist trial to see if it works better on your setup! It has so much going for it, even if I’m still on the hunt for my perfect writing tool.
