January was quite a whirlwind. My Dad was in a serious illness, and sadly, my uncle passed away. I also lost a dear family friend to cancer. Amidst all this, I resolved to make 2026 the year I tackled my clutter and cleaned up my space. As someone with ADHD, I know organization and tidiness aren’t exactly my strong points. My house was filled with memories and junk that my family and I have collected since we moved in twenty-two years ago. I had to do a massive purge. In our den office alone, we had boxes floor to ceiling just full with odds and ends. It was starting to feel like I was walking into a house of a horder. After twenty-two trips to Goodwill, I’m finally clutter-free. Then, I spent some time getting organized. Everything is now labeled in my home. I can now say that I feel refreshed to be in the space rather than cramped. Sometimes, you just need to take some time to declutter. If you haven’t used something in three years, it’s time to let it go. Only then can you organize the space. Once that’s done, I find that I feel better and can find everything I need so much faster.

Do you ever take time to declutter?
