I’ve noticed something that might come from my time in IT, or maybe it’s just common knowledge: it’s generally understood that you shouldn’t bother someone who’s listening to music or headphones. For me, this is a way to minimize distractions while I’m working. With ADHD, staying focused is a constant challenge. Music really helps my brain concentrate. Even if I catch myself getting a little lost in the lyrics or the beat, it keeps me from completely losing track. It’s crucial to stay focused on the task I’m working on because even a small distraction, like someone asking a question that can wait, can easily pull me off course for hours or make me lose focus for the rest of the day. That’s why I have a rule: when I’m wearing headphones or listening to music at my desk, I’m not to be disturbed unless it’s absolutely necessary. It’s essential for my productivity and success.
Do you have a similar rule, or how do you manage distractions?
