I am often asked about something that remains in flux in my daily life. What is in my Everyday Carry since it has been since 2021, since my last What’s in my Pocket post, I figured we were overdue. Some things have changed, and some have stayed the same, so it’s time for another “What’s in my pocket” post summer 2023 edition.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro (512GB, Space Black)
My pocket workhorse is the Apple iPhone 14 Pro. Readers of the site will recall that in 2021, I was rocking the iPhone 12 Pro Max. While I loved the larger iPhone, I found it hard to get some things done while on the go. I used the iPhone 12 Pro Max to replace the iPad while away from my desk, which was beneficial. I found the larger screen somewhat distracted my workflow, and with more projects starting with Freeform and Apple Notes, I found that the iPhone 12 Pro Max screen wasn’t big enough for my work purpose when I wanted to get words on the page. I decided that for my purpose, an iPad mini was better suited for my writing projects. I still use my iPhone to work on writing here and there, but it is for shorter sprints when the ideas hit me. The other reason for the upgrade is the 48-megapixel camera on the iPhone 14 Pro. Besides my writing, I enjoy photography. I ditched the mirrorless camera with the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max and pulled out my phone to get the snapshots instead.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Silicone Case with MagSafe (PRODUCT)RED
Anyone who knows me knows I would go with the (Product) RED iPhone case in leather. Red is my favorite color. Apple didn’t offer a leather case in (Product) RED when I purchased the case, so I had to settle for the silicone case. After using the case on my daily driver since I got it nearly four months ago, I have to admit that it’s less likely to fall out of my hands with the silicone easily gripping my hands.
Apple Leather Wallet with MagSafe – Now with Find My Support – Midnight
In 2021, I condensed my wallet into the MagSafe Wallet. With Apple Pay being where I shop, I seldom need to pull out my cards anyway, so I could make do with just room for three cards. The latest version connects to the Find My Network to ping the location of where the wallet was disconnected from the iPhone.
Victorinox Swiss Army Spartan Pocket Knife
The Boy Scout in me strikes again. It seems as if I have always carried a Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Knife. I find that you never know when or where the trusty Swiss Army knife will come in handy, and it never fails that when you don’t have it, you need it. It’s no coincidence that at least one character in all my stories always has their trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Knife. I find it an invaluable piece of my everyday carry still to this day.
Apple AirPods Pro 2
As someone who struggled with ADHD all their life, I learned that music is a way to cut out the noise of life around me. Therefore, when they came out, I bought the first pair of noise-canceling AirPods. I was in love with them from day one. I just had one complaint about the lack of Find My support. When a friend heard Apple was upgrading the noise-canceling and adding Find My support, they bought me a pair with an engraved Memoji. I still love the AirPod design and functionality within the Apple ecosystem, and with the iOS 17 betas, the quick switching is lightning fast.
Fisher Space Pen Matte Black Bullet Space Pen With Clip
The Fisher Space Pen is still my Everyday Carry pen of choice. As a writer, I carry more than one pen everywhere, but the Fisher Space Pen lives in my pockets. The Space Pen folds into a compact design, making losing it easier. I have only lost three so far this year, but I bought the model with a clip to attach to my pocket, so hopefully, I will not need to buy another one. The pressurized ink of the Fisher Space Pen makes writing easy and consistent, which I love. I’ve yet to have one run out of ink since I lost the pen before that, but you can get a refill from Amazon or most office supply stores.
This is the lowdown on everything I currently carry in my pockets. What do you carry as your Everyday Carry?
