I know I say this often, and readers of this blog know I have ADHD, but as someone with ADHD, I have to fight distractions constantly. One of the best ways I have found to do this is to use a writing table rather than a desk. Desks have drawers, and drawers hold distractions. I try to keep only a few things on my writing table. Sometimes, it’s a losing battle, but my goal is to keep everything that can be a distraction at least farther than arm’s length.

My writing table of choice is a red-stained wood and steel table. I bought it on Etsy from a guy who recently closed his shop. It cost me $409 shipped, but it is a great investment.

I find desks too confining with their drawer placement. Don’t get me wrong; I have drawers under the table, but since the table is wider than a normal desk, I was able to put the drawers under the desk and far enough away that they are there if I need to get to them but still out of distraction range.

Do you prefer a writing table or a desk for your writing activities?
