It’s still pretty surprising to people when I say that my iPad Air is my main device. Most folks think of the iPad as something you use to look at information, not something you create information on. But I saw the iPad’s potential early on. When Steve Jobs showed off the second iPad with the Apple iWorks suite of apps, I knew it was the future. I saved up and got one not just to look at stuff, but to create it. I’ll admit, the first few times I used the iPad for creation were a bit tough. The apps weren’t as good as they could be, and the hardware didn’t have the polished feel of the Mac. I often used both a Mac and an iPad until recently. About two years ago, I switched to the iPad full-time for my daily tasks. The Mac mini is still around, handling storage and some heavy lifting. Now, the iPad Air is my go-to for writing, editing photos, and even making videos. I love how easy it is to move data around with my fingers or use the Apple Pencil to jot down notes quickly without a keyboard or mouse. I do have a keyboard and mouse with my iPad, and I’m using one right now to write this article. The Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad is amazing, but it doesn’t get in the way and lets me just use my fingers without any fuss. The iPad is now even more like the Mac with the latest iPadOS, version 27.4 at the time I wrote this. The lines have blurred, and the device has filled in all the gaps. The apps are now more powerful and can work well with their Mac counterparts. Yes, an iPad Air is my go-to device for all things creation and data consumption. As Steve said those many years ago, “It’s magical and It just works.”
